Programs & Services

Since 1936 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady has served Schenectady's children with drop-in programs after school, Saturdays and most days that schools are closed.  Special programs requiring enrollment are available at some of our Clubhouses and Camp Jesse R. Lovejoy. We offer youth development programs and activities in the following "Core Service" areas:
Character & Leadership Development
Programs empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.
Education & Career Development
Programs enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
Health & Life Skills
Programs develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
The Arts
Programs enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural competence through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
Sports, Fitness & Recreation

Torch Clubs are chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls 10 to 14. The program is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members learn to work together to plan and implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.
POWER HOUR homework help is available at each Club location after school Mon through Thurs. Members are encouraged to complete their work and can receive assitance from staff and tutors.  Getting into Power Hour does increase grades!!
Junior Chefs program is located at the Mont Pleasant Clubhouse.  Junior Chefs are club members who learn their way around the kitchen as they plan, prepare and serve meals to Club members 3 days each week.  Whether baking cookies or preparing a meal for 45 the Chefs they include their knowledge of nutrition and ability to use a food  list of items from the Northeast Regional Foodbank each week
