What exactly is the Boys & Girls Club?

Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day. In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day.

Why do I have to become a member?

A nominal fee of $5 per year ($10 for Rotterdam Clubhouse) is required to participate in the many programs and activities offered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady. This super-low fee helps us cover the cost of operating expenses (approximately $400 per member per year). Memberships also help us keep kids safe by tracking attendance and verifying identity, as well as tracking improving school grades and more.

What is included in my membership?

Just show your membership card at ANY Boys & Girls Club to enter and participate in all that the club has to offer! Once inside the club, you can utilize the games room, receive homework help, participate in a number of programs, and even swim (Rotterdam has a pool). Membership also allows you to register for summer programs such as Camp Lovejoy and particiapte in all the fun activities that come along with being a BGCS member.
