Rotterdam Club Recognizes Lowes Heroes

On Tuesday, December 18, the Rotterdam Boys & Girls Club, an affiliate of the Boys & Girls of Schenectady, invited representatives from the 12 regional Lowe’s stores to recognize the work they volunteered to do in order to make the recent Rotterdam Club renovations possible.

In late summer, the Rotterdam Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady received the Renovation Across the Nation (RAN) $50,000 grant to address much-needed renovations and improvements. We were selected as the signature Club in the state of New York for 2018, along with a selection from each state and Washington D.C. resulting in 51 RAN grants extended.

The Niskayuna store manager, Michael Wurst, organized the Lowe’s Heroes selection pulling in 12 additional Lowe’s stores in the Capital Region, of which each store donated $2,500. This additional support allowed all of the necessary renovations to be addressed which resulted in a safe, clean, bright, welcoming and efficient space to accommodate the more than 125 kids who pile off the school buses and into those doors each day.

Renovations to the Rotterdam Club took place in the following areas: education/theater, swimming pool, game room, learning kitchen, bathrooms, gymnasium, program rooms and art room.

Many thanks to Lowe’s Heroes for this incredible impact to the daily lives of the kids we serve!
