Dunkin’ Donates More Than 50 Basketballs and 200 Water Bottles to Support Local Youth at BGCS

Siena men’s basketball head coach Carmen Maciariello joins Dunkin’ franchisees to visit with local children in celebration of college basketball’s championship game.

SCHENECTADY, New York (April 5, 2021) – In an effort to help kids stay active during the spring break, Capital Region Dunkin’ franchisees and Siena men’s basketball head coach Carmen Maciariello today delivered more than 50 basketballs and 200 water bottles to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady.

Today’s surprise visit and special donation coincide with college basketball’s championship game and were intended to help local children stay active, hydrated and mentally engaged while participating in club activities during school break and the upcoming summer season.

The basketballs and water bottles will be used as part of the sports and fitness program at the Adeline Wright Graham Clubhouse and will help support Boys & Girls Club programming throughout Schenectady.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady is an integral part of the community and we’re thrilled to support their work with this donation,” said Dunkin’ Field Marketing Manager Eric Stensland. “We’d also like to thank Coach Carm and our longtime partner Siena Athletics for joining us today to make this afternoon such a special one for children at the Club. We hope the donation inspires these children to shoot for their dreams, just like the outstanding student athletes competing in tonight’s big game.”

Several of the basketballs autographed by Coach Carm will be used as incentives for the Club’s weekly Bee Awards program, which awards Club members for being safe, responsible and respectful in their community.

In addition to the basketballs and water bottles, Dunkin’ franchisees thanked the staff and volunteers at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady by providing them gift cards, coffee and baked goods during the visit. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady has more than 60 staff members who oversee more than 400 children and teens, both in-person and virtually, throughout Schenectady.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady is thrilled to partner with Dunkin’ and Siena College men’s basketball to help reward our young people for displaying outstanding behaviors,” said Shane Bargy, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady. “The kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady work so hard and this recognition is so wonderful for their confidence.”

The donation marks Dunkin’s latest initiative in an ongoing effort to support non-profit organizations that are central to the well-being of those in the community. Since March 2020, Dunkin’ has donated thousands of baked goods, coffee and gift cards to first responders, nurses, food pantry employees, vaccine workers and child care staff.

Dunkin’ has a longstanding relationship with Siena Athletics and the Siena College men’s and women’s basketball teams.
